Green Light or Red Flag: Navigating Modern Marijuana Laws

Course Description:

This program will discuss modern law and changes in law regarding cannabis possession and use. Specific topics will include recent changes to the law regarding probable cause for a search and how drug dogs are used in roadside stops and elsewhere; eligibility and the process for obtaining a medical marijuana card, and other topics of interest to the average person.

Speaker Bio:

Amy Ruiz is a distinguished Tampa-based attorney with over 20 years of legal experience. As the founder of Amy Ruiz Law, PL, she offers a unique, 360-degree perspective on the courtroom, having served as both an Assistant Public Defender and an Assistant State Attorney for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit. She is a dedicated leader in the legal community, serving as a past president of the Tampa Hispanic Bar Association and a member of the Tampa Bay Inn of Court. Her accolades include the 2024 Raymond E. Fernandez Award and recognition as a "Top Lawyer" by Tampa Magazine. Ms. Ruiz earned her J.D. from Florida State University College of Law. She is licensed in all Florida state courts and the U.S. Middle and Northern Districts.
